From One “J” to Another: The Brands Behind Our Inspiration

From One “J” to Another: The Brands Behind Our Inspiration

J. Patrick & Co. was named after our two founders, Patrick M. Carr and John Patrick Minnis. While the “J.” in our name represents John, we can’t help but notice-perhaps with a bit of humor and pride-that we find ourselves in excellent company among the iconic American brands that also start with a “J.” Though we didn’t quite set out to mirror these legendary “J.”s, we’ve long been admirers.

J. Crew has been a staple in my closet for decades, starting with that signature rolled neck sweater I lived in during my college days, all the way to the latest Aldean collaboration that keeps the brand fresh and relevant. There’s something timeless about J. Crew’s blend of classic Americana and modern style. I remember eagerly awaiting each seasonal catalog, flipping through pages for inspiration, and thinking, in hindsight, I wish I’d saved them as collector’s items. I’m thrilled to see that J. Crew is bringing back a bit of its catalog tradition-it’s a nod to the past and a testament to their enduring appeal.

Although I wasn’t quite smart enough-or so I say-to attend an Ivy League school, I’ve always admired the preppy aesthetic and understated elegance of J. Press. Their navy blazers and impeccably tailored classics evoke a sense of tradition, authenticity, and sophistication. Whenever business or pleasure takes me to the East Coast, a visit to a J. Press store is a must. Walking through their shop is a reminder of the enduring power of quality craftsmanship and timeless style.

And then there’s J. McLaughlin, who, to me, represents the very definition of classic casual. Their clothing seamlessly bridges the gap between business casual and weekend leisure-clean lines, vibrant colors, and a special knack for making every occasion feel just a bit more refined, without ever trying too hard. Theirs is a style that’s effortlessly put-together, always appropriate, and, perhaps most importantly, unfailingly comfortable.

At J. Patrick & Co., we strive to embody these same values: authenticity, quality, and an enduring sense of style-both in our business approach and in how we work with our clients. We’re proud of our name, our heritage, and yes, our “J.” lineage. Here’s to being in good company-past, present, and future.
