Every Gentleman Needs a Classic Leather Notebook

Every Gentleman Needs a Classic Leather Notebook

Before smart phones (yes, I know, that was a long, long time ago…) we actually took notes with a pen and paper. Some might call it old school, but at J. Patrick & Co. we believe old school is a good thing. Taking notes, jotting down ideas, and making lists with your favorite pen and a useful leather notebook is exactly what a gentleman does to distinguish himself from the masses.

Someone once said, “the greatest honor you can give to another person is to give them your undivided attention.” I remember one of my favorite mentors, Smith Holland, then the President of Hallmark Canada, taking notes and writing down thoughts and ideas being shared with him by some of our warehouse workers. He instinctively knew that those men would feel like a million dollars as he visibility jotted down what they had to say.

Plus, research has proven time and time again that the mere act of putting a pen to paper has a magical effect on our state of mind. As an example, writing down your goals increases your probability of achieving them by over 10x! With those odds, consider investing in our J. Patrick & Co. Utility Notebook, made of premium vegetable-tanned leather that has been handcrafted by skilled artisans right here in the USA. Each notebook’s interior is styled in our signature navy blue and includes pockets for business cards, receipts, and anything else you need to hang on to. We can also personalize your leather notebook with your monogram to make it your own. Note: this notebook will take on a rich patina over time that will make it the ideal everyday essential that you’ll want to pass down to the next generation.

This vintage notebook was owned by my wife’s late grandfather, Arlie McClard. He was quite the gentleman and seriously entrepreneurial with a thriving Hereford cattle ranch, lumber company and real estate business in Farmington, MO. Arlie was likely successful, due in part, to his impressive organization as his notebook is a shining example of keeping meticulous notes for his business ventures. In honor of Arlie McClard and to celebrate the enduring quality of his 103-year-old leather notebook, were affectionately calling our version The McClard.
