Thirty-three years ago, John and I met as freshman at Benedictine College, in small-town Atchison, Kansas and have been friends ever since. For the last three decades we’ve been laser focused on our careers and both absolutely love our day jobs. John is the CEO of Kompass Funding, a financial services company and I’m the CEO of the U.S. division of The H&H Group, a personalized gift company. 

For the last year, we’ve been meeting on Saturday mornings at a local Kansas City coffee shop to discuss creating an exclusive line of men’s accessories that we could eventually pass down to our collective 5 sons. Thoroughly inspired by Matt Hranek’s WM Brown men’s lifestyle magazine, Alex Holderness & John Bourne of Holderness & Bourne, and Richard Greiner and Andy Forch, the founders of Huckberry, along with some strong encouragement from our wives, Angie & Kate, we made the decision to start J. Patrick & Co. on April 1st, 2023. Despite officially forming our new business venture on April Fool’s Day, we are completely serious about curating products for guys who appreciate quality men’s goods.

Although we have countless ideas for products, we decided to start with a handful of everyday carry essentials, and we couldn’t be more excited to share them with you! Admittedly, we carefully obsessed over every single detail to ensure our first five products turned out perfect. We hope you love them as much as we do!

• Utility Notebook – for months, we collaborated with Sarah and Anna at Tactile Craftworks, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to ensure our leather notebook would be clutch whenever you need to jot a note, recall a to-do or write the next chapter of your book.
• Notebook Journals – we also created some handy Paper Insert Journals in 3 old-school preppy designs to complement our one-of-a-kind Utility Notebooks.
• Pocket Caddy – keeping your pockets organized is not only smart, it looks good, too. Our pocket caddy will elegantly & simply house your cash, credit cards or a stack of business cards.
• Legacy Knife – designed to last the test of time and intended to be passed down to generations to come, our collaboration with Boker produced an everyday pocket knife that every gentleman needs in his trouser pocket.
• Bradford Lighter – whether you need to ignite a fire pit, light a fine cigar or burn a candle (from our favorite home fragrance line: www.heartandhomeusa.com), our charming & vintage-inspired Zippo lighters will get the job done.

We were also particularly selective about who we partnered with to create our new line:

• Tactile Craftworks – a women-owned and operated leather crafting company based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Sarah and Anna are amazing at designing and hand-crafting exquisite leather products.
• Wickett & Craig – a 156-year-old American vegetable tannery located in Curwensville, Pennsylvania. We knew we needed to source the best leather in the USA and W&C is unquestionably the best at what they do. 
• Boker – the famous knives with the world-renowned tree-brand have been handmade in Germany since 1869. Partnering with the oldest and most renowned knife manufacture on the planet proved to be the best choice for our first everyday carry pocket knife. 
• Zippo Manufacturing Co. – the Zippo timeline begins in the early 1930s, at the Bradford Country Club in Bradford, Pennsylvania. Still family owned and operated today, the Zippo pocket lighter is ingrained in American culture and remains a global icon of durability and reliability.
